At the inception of the SCALAP-Karamoja project (Strengthening the Capacity of Local Governments and Civil Society for HIV Prevention in Karamoja). It was realized the compared to other regions, Karamoja has a clearly defined regional leaders structure, which is vital in planning, overseeing and guiding the response to HIV and AIDS. Accordingly, the first regional Leaders meeting was held in Nakapiripirit on 31st May 2012. In this meeting, the leaders guided the priority setting, endorsed and officially launched the project. Since then, it was agreed that regional stakeholders meetings should be organized to review progress and guide the implementation of the three years Irish Aid Funded project jointly implemented by AMICAALL, TASO and ULGA.
The second and third Karamoja Leaders and Stakeholders regional meetings were held on 17th January and 9th May 2013 respectively in Kotido district. The regional meetings have proved to be very important avenues for regional leaders to share information and experiences, jointly review the regional response to HIV and AIDS in general and project performance in particular as well as agree on priorities. The meetings attract the participation of national level actors including development partners and relevant government ministries and departments.
The goal of the meeting is to enhance planning and coordination of the HIV and AIDS response in Karamoja region.
1. To review the progress made in the HIV prevention, care, treatment and support in the Karamoja region by all players.
