PROJECT TITLE:
Engaging Urban Leaders to Scale up Comprehensive HIV and AIDS Services Targeting MARPS and Other High Risk Groups
INTERVENTION AREAS:
BCC, Condom Education and Distribution, HCT, eMTCT, SRH (FP), ART, STI Screening and Treatment, coordination, capacity development, referrals research and documentation.

GOAL OF THE PROJECT: The overall goal of this project is to reduce the risk of HIV infection and mitigate its impact among the MARPs and other high risk groups in KCCA and the surrounding urban authorities
TARGET AREAS and GROUPS:
ive (5) KCCA Divisions (Makindye, Kawempe, Lubaga, Nakawa and Central) and Entebbe.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
OBJECTIVE 1: Increasing adoption of safer sexual behavior among the MARPs in KCCA and the surrounding urban authorities by the end of October 2015. Key activities to achieve that included introduce the project to local leadership, select and train peer educators, connduct community dialogues, develop and distribute Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials, establish condom outlets, establish and support Anti-AIDS drama groups for sensitization and mobilization of MARPs, conduct sensitization workshops targeting owners of recreation centers, conduct sexuality and life skills seminars, establish one HIV and AIDS knowledge room and service centre.
OBJECTIVE 2: Scaling up coverage of comprehensive HIV and AIDS services through increased access and utilization of services among the MARPs in KCCA and the surrounding urban authorities in by end of October 2015. Key activities included a quarterly combination HIV prevention camp, moonlight HCT services, comprehensive STI, HIV and AIDS treatment, care and social support services targeting MARPs at Mulago STD/ MARPI Clinic facility, as well as quarterly outreaches.
OBJECTIVE 3: Strengthening the capacity of AMICAALL, KCCA and other implement urban authorities in HIV and MARPs programming for improved delivery of HIV and AIDS services to MARPs by October 2015. Key activities include Project staff undertaking short courses, conducting capacity needs assessment to identify capacity gaps in MARPs, conduct capacity building training and mentoring sessions, facilitate AMICAALL staff and selected urban council officials to participate in conferences/events/trainings.
OBJECTIVE 4: Strengthening coordination and referral linkages for improved HIV and AIDS service delivery among the MARPs in KCCA and the surrounding urban authorities in by end of October 2015. Key activities include revitalize AIDS Coordination structures, support the HIV and AIDS coordination offices, conduct quarterly meetings for national and local level implementing partners, develop a referral network based on the mapping exercise.
OBJECTIVE 5: Strengthening M&E and Research to generate contemporary knowledge, lessons and good practices to enhance learning and evidence based programming for quality HIV and AIDS service delivery among the MARPs in KCCA the surrounding urban areas by end of October 2015.
The Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders’ Initiative for Community Action on AIDS at the Local Level (AMICAALL) is an association of African Mayors and other Urban Leaders formed to support sustainable solutions to the HIV and AIDS.
