PREVENTION OF HIV AND AIDS IN COMMUNITIES OF KARAMOJA (PACK II)

Goal

To contribute to the reduction of new HIV infections amongst adolescents and young people (10-24 years) in the Karamoja sub-region over the period 2018 – 2020

INTERVENTION AREAS:

BCC, Condom Education and Distribution, HCT, eMTCT, SRH (FP), ART, STI Screening and Treatment, coordination, capacity development, referrals research and documentation.

GOAL OF THE PROJECT: The overall goal of this project is to reduce the risk of HIV infection and mitigate its impact among the MARPs and other high risk groups in KCCA and the surrounding urban authorities

TARGET AREAS and GROUPS: 

ive (5) KCCA Divisions (Makindye, Kawempe, Lubaga, Nakawa and Central) and Entebbe.

 OBJECTIVES

 

  1. To increase demand and access to quality HIV/AIDS and SRH services for Adolescents (10-19yrs), young people (20-24yrs) and MARPs/key population over the period 2018-2020
  2. To empower communities to address social cultural barriers including violation of human rights, and access to justice for HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment and social support over the period 2018-2020
  3. To strengthen the capacity of PACK and other CSOs in good governance, advocacy, resource and community mobilization to deliver their mandate in the HIV /AIDS response  at national and local levels over the period 2018-2020.
  4. To strengthen evidence based HIV&AIDS and SRH programming and documentation of lessons learnt and best practices at national and local levels over the period 2018-2020

INTERVENTIONS:

  1. Improving knowledge and access to information on HIV and AIDS and SRHR services, policies and bye-laws among Adolescents girls, young people and key population to demand and access service
  2. Improving delivery, access and uptake of HIV prevention, care, support, nd SRHR services
  3. Strengthening stigma and discrimination reduction interventions
  4. Improving knowledge of non-state actors on structural barriers to services
  5. Strengthening capacity of non-state actors to catalyze and effectively engage in social activism and advocacy for improved service delivery
  6. Promoting targeted campaign by Mayors and non-state actors on structural barriers to HIV and AIDS services support
  7. Strengthening institutional capacity of CSOs in leadership, planning, resource mobilization etc
  8. Building capacity of community structures on advocacy, social mobilization to create an enabling environment for service delivery and social accountability
  9. Strengthening the capacity of urban authorities to oversee the decentralized HIV and AIDS response
  10. Ensuring resources are mobilized, managed and effectively and efficiently utilized by the consortium
  11. Strengthening coordination, partnership and networking among Consortium members, district and lower local government and other CSOs involved in HIV and AIDS response in Karamoja
  12. Strengthening community management information system for improved service delivery and accountability
  13. Conducting population based studies; and strengthening M&E system for the consortium.

GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE:

  • Seven (7) districts of Karamoja (Abim, Amudat, Kaabong, Kotido, Moroto, Nakapiripirit and Napak, )
  • Tow (2) Municipalities and 5 Town Councils
  • 100% of the 72 sub-counties
